Testimonials

Kaila has all along created a warmhearted, structured space for our 13 yo daughter to bloom and grow her voice. Since sessions have transitioned smoothly to online remote at home, we catch snippets of her presence and positivity, her kind support and direction, and her skill & wealth of resources as a primo vocalist. We love to see our daughter’s joy and confidence when she emerges from lessons.

Kaila is amazing. Both my kids take voice from her. She is super professional, doesn’t waste a minute, my children have a great time while there, and both have made big improvements in their singing. I highly recommend Kaila.
— Amanda, May 2018
I started taking lessons with Kaila last year. We work on rock, blues and pop songs that I’m covering in my band. She’s helping me with technique as well as performance and making the songs my own. Her rates are very reasonable, she’s very organized and punctual and lessons are positive and fun!
— Susan, May 2018
I have no singing experience and Kaila’s warm, friendly personality immediately put me at ease. She is very positive, supportive and encouraging. She is turning a situation that could have been very nerve wracking for me and turning it into a totally fun experience that I look forward to every week. I’m learning a ton and I feel comfortable and free to express myself - I can’t believe I’m actually doing this!
— Tootsie, February 2017
Kaila is a very knowledgeable and friendly teacher. She’s encouraging and was able to put me very much at ease right from the beginning. My goal was to be able to better project, to hit lower notes more accurately and to be better prepared to sing with my choir. I have achieved all these goals in just a few months’ time but will continue my classes as they are such a great help. The other singers in my choir have commented on my improvement, so it is not only obvious to me - and I guess that is the best recommendation I can give for Kaila.
— Nadia, December 2016
Kaila has made my daughter feel comfortable in the first few sessions she has had with her. Not looking any further for a voice teacher. She is great.
— Susan, June 2016
Kaila is an A+ teacher. She helped me feel at ease on day 1, and provides teaching that is personalized to my goals for my voice. I love that she emphasizes the individual’s preferences, instead of only promoting a “classic” style of singing.
— Elisabeth, November 2014
Kaila is hands down one of the best Vocal Instructors in the WORLD. She is super professional as well as educated on the craft of singing. She has taught me things about my voice that have been beneficial to my career as an artist. I will carry the tools she has provided me for the rest of my life.

Resume

I grew up in a musical family, with my father teaching all the kids barbershop quartet songs and three-part harmonies.  As a student at San Rafael High School in California, I sang with the Advanced Jazz Choir and played flute with the Advanced Jazz Band, winning several awards at the Folsom and Santa Cruz Jazz Festivals. I was the lead in high school musicals, and tutored my peers in voice and flute.

Wanting to be surrounded by a vibrant art scene, I ventured off to Sarah Lawrence College in New York, and spent weekends taking in all that Manhattan had to offer.  There I formed Big Tree, a nationally touring indie pop band based first out of Brooklyn, then the Bay Area.  I graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Vocal Performance. During my junior year, I had the opportunity to take Opera and Canto Lyrico classes at the world-renowned Instituto Superior de Artes abroad in Cuba.  I have studied with incredible masterminds Marcia Miget, Thomas Young, Hilda Harris, and Glenn Alexander. I currently perform in several local groups, and write music that has been placed in commercials, shows, and videos.

I have been teaching and mentoring for over a decade, and I cherish the special bond between vocal coach and singer.
